The design and restoration
Expert engineers, architects and multimedia technicians have overseen every detail of the design, restoration and renovation of this magnificent historical venue, which in capacity, facilities and sheer elegance has no comparison.
After four years of repair and refurbishment, today the Hall of the Muses can satisfy the requirements of businesses and institutions, offering specific services even for large meetings (over 1000 participants), and in an unmatched historical, cultural and artistic setting. The project arose from a precise need: to retrieve an additional area for use as a picture gallery, as well as a hall for conferences, major events and social gatherings. The technical and structural design aspects were overseen by expert engineers from the Polytechnic of Milan.
The project to restore the Hall, situated beneath the foyer of the Villa San Carlo Borromeo, involved major renovation work. Its most interesting feature is the modular element of the ceiling, composed of a timeless, reticulated galactic structure.
Consequently, the Hall is light and airy despite being underground. This is due to the reticular steel structure, which supports the foyer above without the aid of columns, leaving the entire volume of space (36m x 17m) unbroken. In addition, the use of glass for the internal gallery makes the whole interior space visible from any point of the Hall.
For the floor, the project envisaged wooden flooring of roughly 1,400 sq.m. with very high acoustic performance and background noise insulation.
The product chosen and specially adapted to these specific technical requirements was a lightly bleached oak Plank. It has the attractive colour of freshly cut oak, with an extremely natural and velvety finish, but is also extremely hard-wearing. The use of light, sound-absorbing panels has achieved an unusual “waved” effect on the ceiling.
Excellent acoustics, together with carefullly studied lighting, makes this a perfect environment for conferences, shows concerts and exhibitions. |
